SYNOPSIS

On June 12, 1981, an unknown man, using the name Chester W., hijacked a regional flight from Sacramento to Portland, and demanded $1.5 million dollars in exchange for the passengers and crew. After hours of intense negotiations, the FBI finally gave in. Two hours after taking off toward an unknown destination, the plane suddenly crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. Neither the money nor Chester W. was ever seen again.

In present-day St. Louis, David Soule (30s) is struggling to keep his floundering bar afloat and provide for his wife and smart-as-a-whip daughter. But try as he might, the bills keep piling up. That's when ex-FBI agent Hank Lannigan (60s) enters the picture. He's got a strange offer for David and an even stranger story to go along with it.

Lannigan tells David that his long-thought dead father is actually still alive. And what's more, David's old man might be the infamous Chester W. Lannigan then offers David $25,000 to go down to Mexico and confirm that his dad was the one behind the biggest unsolved case in FBI history.

Thus begins David's journey to track down his father. But when he finds him, David discovers there's a lot more to the Chester W. story than anyone could have ever imagined.

FILMMAKERS

PAUL NICOLETOS

The Highway Man is a film inspired by the loss of my father and the idea of having one more chance to talk to him. This story exists in the same universe inhabited by the edgy and fun independent movies of the early 1990s, as well as the character-driven dramas of the 1970s. The Highway Man's DNA has been formed by the films of Peckinpah, Tarantino, Friedkin, and the Coen Bros.

JOSEPH FOULK &

CASEY STEGMAN

Writer

The Highway Man represents everything we got into screenwriting for in the first place. It's a story about family, about redemption, and about an every-man thrown into a larger-than-life adventure through a seemingly chance encounter. It's the kind of film we always wanted to write because it's the kind of film we have always wanted to see.

CHARACTERS

ROLLIE JENKINS

Rollie Jenkins is more than just the man behind the most infamous unsolved skykacking case in U.S. history. He's a salty and weathered sort who's spent most of his time of this planet scamming his way through life in one way or another. But, when his estranged son shows up at his hiding spot in Mexico looking for him, Rollie realizes this this is his chance to be more than just a highway man.

DAVID SOULE

David's been thrust into adulthood by an unplanned pregnancy and he has since struggled to make a good life for him and his family. With the recent passing of his mother and the inheritance of her failing neighborhood bar, David is also attempting to salvage this final monument to her despite it causing further financial strain. Does he sell the bar to rescue his family from their piling debt? This is the crossroads at which David finds himself when we first meet him.

HANK LANNIGAN

On the surface, Lannigan appears to be a gentle grandfatherly--type. But something is lurking beneath his goofy Hawaiian shirt and nebbish smile. He's desperate to finish his book "Airjack," the story of the infamous Chester W. As an investigator on the case, Hank is probably the most informed person on the incident, and the most obsessed. Having unsuccessfully solved this 30 year old case, Hank has finally found something that may crack the case wide open. But in order to that, he must first track down David Soule.

CLAIRE SOULE

David's wife, Claire is the glue that is clearly holding the Soule family intelligence and is determined to make the relationship hos work
